THE 2024 FARMERS DAY CELEBRATION HELD AT TONGO PRIMARY SCHOOL PARK

The theme for this year’s farmer’s day celebration is “Building Climate – Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food security”.

The assembly through the Ghana productive safety Net Programme is undertaking a climate change mitigation project at Pusu- Namongo and rehabilitating a number of Small Earth Dams in some selected communities to promote all year round farming.

Furthermore, Cardinal Namdini Mining limited, Earl International Mining Limited, some institutions and individuals supported this event in cash, equipment and farm inputs. Under the Government planting for food and Jobs Programme, the government made 1,203 fertilizers available to farmers on credit basis to enable them produce maize and pay back after harvesting. Again, the Assembly under Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion Project (SOCO) procured fifty (50) water pumping machines to support dry season farmers in the District.

The District Director of Agriculture, Mr. Mathew suleman was grateful to all individuals and institutions who made the farmer’s day celebration successful. He welcomed the district best farmer Bawa Francis who received items and full support of the Assembly.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Thomas Duanab wuni thanked the Overlord of Talensi Traditional Area, the Chiefs, Tindanas and all sons and daughters of the District for their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the district.

In conclusion, The DCE reminded everyone to maintain peace before, during and after the December 7 general elections and appeal to everyone especially the youth to avoid any form of violence during this period and beyond.
