CLEAN UP EXERCISE ORGANISED BY THE TALENSI DISTRICT ON SATURDAY 1ST NOVEMBER, 2025 IN PWALUGU

In accordance with the declaration by His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, of first Saturday of each month as a National Sanitation Day, the Talensi District Assembly under the leadership of the District Chief Executive (DCE), spearheaded a clean-up exercise in Pwalugu community, in the Talensi District, on Saturday, November 1, 2025. The events that preceded the exercise encompassed public awareness campaign to highlight the significance of the exercise, community mobilization and conveyance of sanitary tools and equipment to Pwalugu.

Prior to the day of the clean-up exercise, a lot of public sensitization activities including public announcements were embarked upon to inform and sensitize the general public in Pwalugu and the surrounding communities on the importance of the Sanitation Day and the need for active participation.

On the morning of the clean-up day, a group of dignitaries and officials include Hon. District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Assembly Members, representatives from various departments, Assembly staff, religious leaders, staff of Zoom lion Ghana Limited and members of the Pwalugu community assembled at the town centre to kick start the clean-up activity. The exercise involved sweeping, clearing of weeds, collection/evacuation of refuse and desilting of chocked gutters. The group traversed the town, passing through the market, taxi station, the Chief’s Palace, and other areas, as part of the clean-up efforts.

 

In conclusion, the DCE emphasized that the monthly clean-up exercise is a vital initiative that fosters community involvement and environmental responsibility, and that continued support and participation are crucial for its success.

The participants were treated to refreshments and the event came to a close.

Talensi DCE launches monthly clean-up exercise

As part of efforts to ensure a safe and clean environment for locals of the Talensi District in the Upper East Region, the Chief Executive for the area, Thomas Wuni Pearson has instituted a clean-up exercise. The exercise is expected to take place on the last Friday of every month.

Mr. Wuni made this revelation when he spoke at the 65th Independence Day Celebration in Tongo.

According to him, it is mandatory for every citizen to begin to abide by the directive to ensure a clean environment and also help curb sanitation-related diseases in the District and the region as a whole.

He explained that it has become necessary that, the Assembly takes such bold step to fight filth and plastics in the District which has been a very disturbing issue recently.

He stated, “the Assembly has instituted a monthly clean-up exercise which comes of the last Friday of every month, the exercise is to be carried out from 6 am to 9 am in all communities across the District”.

“I am using this platform to announce to you that the clean-up exercise is compulsory for all residents of this District and so should we take note and observe it accordingly” he stressed.

He, therefore, appealed to the District Education Directorate in the District to inculcate to incorporate the sanitation exercise in the various schools to ensure a filth-free environment to enhance teaching and learning.
