TALENSI DISTRICT INAUGURATES BLUE WATER GUARDS TO SAFEGUARD WATER RESOURCES
The Talensi District Assembly has successfully inaugurated the Talensi District Blue Water Guards, marking a significant milestone in the district’s collective efforts to protect its water bodies and promote responsible environmental stewardship.
The colourful ceremony brought together key stakeholders, including the District Police Commander, District Fire Commander, District BNI Officer, the Chief of Baare representing the Talensi Traditional Council, representatives from the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources on behalf of the Hon. Minister, officials from the Minerals Commission’s Tamale and Bolgatanga Offices, members of the Blue Water Guards, and other distinguished guests.
In his welcome address, the District Chief Executive, Hon. John Millim Nabwomya, described the initiative as a timely intervention for Talensi, a district blessed with abundant mineral resources. He stressed that while mining contributes significantly to economic growth and livelihoods, it must be pursued alongside environmental sustainability. The DCE called on all stakeholders to support the Blue Water Guards through cooperation, information sharing and a collective commitment to protecting the district’s rivers and natural resources. He further urged the newly inaugurated Guards to discharge their duties with discipline, integrity, professionalism and patriotism while upholding the rule of law.
Delivering a message on behalf of the Hon. Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, the Ministry’s representative underscored the critical role of the Blue Water Guards in preserving Ghana’s valuable land and water resources. He encouraged the officers to remain diligent, impartial and committed to their mandate, while appealing to communities and all stakeholders to lend them the necessary support to ensure the success of the initiative.
The inauguration reflects Government’s commitment to combating environmental degradation, promoting responsible mining practices and empowering local communities to actively participate in safeguarding the nation’s natural heritage.
The Talensi District Assembly remains committed to working closely with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Minerals Commission, traditional authorities, security agencies, licensed mining companies and community leaders to ensure that economic development goes hand in hand with environmental conservation for the benefit of present and future generations.
